21 January, 2026

SOAS University of London, Brunei Lecture Theatre, SOAS Gallery Lecture Theatre, 10 Thornhaugh St, London WC1H 0XG

This event will mark the publication of the book Archiving Gaza in the Present, co-edited by Professor Dina Matar and Dr Venetia Porter.

What does it mean to archive during a livestreamed and unfolding genocide in Gaza? How do we address the act of archiving as a productive and imaginative process that responds to destruction and erasure? How do artists and other cultural producers think about the archive and its de-colonial potential in one of the darkest periods for Palestinians?

Join co-editors Dina Matar and Venetia Porter in discussion with the book’s contributors including Malak Mattar, Rachel Dedman and Seif al-Rashidi. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Zerrin Biner Arroyo-Kalin from the Department of Anthropology, SOAS.

6 - 7.30pm

This event is free to attend, but registration is required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
